Want a little more freedom in the studio? Open Studio is suited to individuals who can work safely and independently in the studio. If you have taken a 4-week wheel and/or hand building course or equivalent, then our open studio option is perfect for you. If this requirement is a barrier– please email us at assistant@homerwatson.on.ca explaining your experience working in ceramics.

An Open Studio participant should be able to monitor their own work, center their own clay, trim wheel-thrown pieces, construct hand-built work to a project-appropriate thickness, and effectively glaze their own pots.

What is included in Open Studio Program?

  • Basic studio tools
  • Studio paint on glazes & underglazes
  • 1ft x 3ft shelf space for active artworks
  • Wheels, 14” slab roller, and hand building tables
  • Opportunity to take part in monthly studio clay and supply orders
  • Firing services
  • 1 kiln shelf included with registration
  • For additional firing space see firing price chart

What is NOT included in your monthly membership:

 Clay cost: 25$ for 10kg bag/ 50$ for 20kg box

The Loch Doon area was memorialized in celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns piece “Ye banks and braes O’ bonnie Doon”

Ye banks and braes o’ bonny Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
And I sae weary fu’ o’ care?
Thou’lt break my heart, thou warbling bird,
That wantons thro’ the flowering thorn:
Thou minds me o’ departed joys,
Departed, never to return.

Aft hae I rov’d by bonnie Doon,
To see the rose and woodbine twine;
And ilka bird sang o’ its love,
And fondly sae did I o’ mine.
Wi’ lightsome heart I pu’d a rose,
Fu’ sweet upon its thorny tree;
And my fause lover stole my rose,
But, ah! he left the thorn wi’ me.
