Mini Book Making Family Workshop

In this workshop participants of all ages are invited to explore creating zines, mini magazine or books. Eve will introduce the history of zine-making and printing by empowering participants to create, select their own message, materials, and eventual replication.

This workshop encourages critical thinking from each participant as their art in the age of mechanical (or digital!) reproduction is often a given. How will you adapt to errors made by hand? Will these be reproduced for authenticity, or redone to encourage professionalism? And what will you draw, write, or create on only eight pages?

The Loch Doon area was memorialized in celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns piece “Ye banks and braes O’ bonnie Doon”

Ye banks and braes o’ bonny Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
And I sae weary fu’ o’ care?
Thou’lt break my heart, thou warbling bird,
That wantons thro’ the flowering thorn:
Thou minds me o’ departed joys,
Departed, never to return.

Aft hae I rov’d by bonnie Doon,
To see the rose and woodbine twine;
And ilka bird sang o’ its love,
And fondly sae did I o’ mine.
Wi’ lightsome heart I pu’d a rose,
Fu’ sweet upon its thorny tree;
And my fause lover stole my rose,
But, ah! he left the thorn wi’ me.
