Imagined Rivers
Imagined Rivers is a selection of works that explore the idea of water moving through imagined landscapes. The rivers of these paintings represent the idea that rivers are metaphoric constructions of our imaginations: they move toward the sea, are fed by glaciers, rain and the current of subterranean waters, creating constantly shifting borders. The Characters that appear in these paintings provide their own versions of the journey that water makes, weaving their stories into the juxtaposed planes that construct their world.
My work explores Memory, Nature and Literature. My memories growing up in Chile, where colour combinations are of unexpected complexities; the deep sense of connection I experience with Nature working in an organic farm; and the world of fiction that Literature offers, inform my work profoundly. Each painting is titled after a line of a poem, making Literature the unifying component behind each composition.
