Summary:
As an operating museum and art gallery we host a variety of art programming for all ages and skill levels. Reporting to the Education & Public Programs Coordinator, the Art Programs Volunteers welcome visitors and students, assist with gathering and distributing art supplies, assisting artists in demonstrations, and cleaning art materials and the studio spaces.

Homer Watson House & Gallery (HWHG) is a National Historic Site and former home and art studio of Canadian artist Homer Watson (1855 – 1936).
HWHG preserves and celebrates the legacy of Homer Watson’s creative spirit through the appreciation, enjoyment and practice of the visual arts.
Our mandate is to engage in four-part program of:
- Preservation and Collection of Homer Watson’s art, his home studio and gallery and the heritage of his life, his times and that of the Doon School of Fine Arts.
- Exhibition of the broad spectrum of Watson’s art and regular shows of contemporary local and regional artists.
- Education through instructional programs in the visual arts for the public and curriculum-based school programming.
- Enrichment through special programs, events, and activities.
What you’ll be doing:
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Education and Public Programs Coordinator, Art Programs volunteers will:
- Assist in setting up, cleaning up and facilitation of art workshops, events and/or camps.
- Support staff and participants during sessions.
- Help manage art supplies and materials.
- Greet and engage with participants to foster a positive experience.
- Document events through photography or note-taking (if applicable).
What we are looking for:
- Enthusiasm for the arts and community involvement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience in art, education, or event coordination is a plus but not required.
- Willingness to obtain a vulnerable sector check.
Summary:
Do you love working with a variety of people and have a passion for giving back to the community? HWHG hosts a variety of markets and events throughout the year. Reporting to the Events Coordinator, Special Events Volunteers assist with various responsibilities, which may include event setup, vendor support, monitoring activity stations, cleanup, and more.

What you’ll be doing:
As a not-for-profit organization, we host a variety of fundraising and community events throughout the year. Your role may include:
- Attending planning meetings
- Setting up event spaces (decorations, tables, chairs, supplies)
- Supporting vendors and assisting guests and visitors
- Staffing activity stations
- Helping with post-event cleanup
- Participating in debriefing sessions
- Communicating effectively with volunteers, coordinators, and guests
What we’re looking for:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Responsible. reliable and punctual
- Ability to work efficiently in a team setting
- Flexibility and adaptability for diverse tasks
- A positive attitude and attention to detail
- Physical capability (e.g., lifting, bending, outdoor work) is a plus
- Prior experience is beneficial but not required
- Willingness to complete a vulnerable sector check if needed

As a Grounds and Gardens Volunteer, you will play a vital role in enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our property while contributing to the sustainability of our outdoor spaces. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals interested in horticulture, landscaping, and environmental stewardship.

What you’ll be doing:
- Assist in the care and maintenance of the gardens, grounds, and landscaping.
- Help with weeding, pruning, and watering plants.
- Maintain flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other vegetation.
- Assist with seasonal landscaping tasks such as leaf removal and garden clean-up.
- Work alongside other volunteers and staff to develop and implement gardening and sustainability initiatives.
- Follow safety guidelines and ensure that all tasks are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.
What we are looking for:
- No prior gardening experience is required, though an interest in the outdoors or landscaping is a plus.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and working in outdoor conditions.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A passion for nature, sustainability, and contributing to the community.
- Available to volunteer during spring, summer or fall seasons.
