Writer’s Market

Sunday, June 1st, 2025 | 12-4pm

Words have the power to delight, inspire, provoke, comfort, and unite—as do the authors, journalists and poets who wield them. In honour of Phoebe Watson, an artist and creative writer, the Gallery will be hosting a Writer’s Market Sunday June 1, 2025. Join fellow writers and readers for a day of literary creativity that celebrates and inspires through written and spoken word.

Homer Watson House & Gallery will consider all creative writing vendor submissions. Non-fiction, fiction, biography/autobiography, memoir, children’s books, young adult, how-to, cookbooks, science fiction, and poetry. All writers are welcome to participate as vendors. The Gallery does not take commission on any sales.

Writer’s Market Vendor fee: $50/vendor

Space: 10x10ft

The Loch Doon area was memorialized in celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns piece “Ye banks and braes O’ bonnie Doon”

Ye banks and braes o’ bonny Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
And I sae weary fu’ o’ care?
Thou’lt break my heart, thou warbling bird,
That wantons thro’ the flowering thorn:
Thou minds me o’ departed joys,
Departed, never to return.

Aft hae I rov’d by bonnie Doon,
To see the rose and woodbine twine;
And ilka bird sang o’ its love,
And fondly sae did I o’ mine.
Wi’ lightsome heart I pu’d a rose,
Fu’ sweet upon its thorny tree;
And my fause lover stole my rose,
But, ah! he left the thorn wi’ me.
